King Felipe VI has accepted the invitation to be the Honorary Chairman of the second edition of the Startup Europe Smart Agrifood Summit, the European reference meeting on the digital transformation of the agrifood industry. The event, organised jointly by the European Foundation for Innovation (INTEC) and FYCMA (Malaga Exhibition and Conference Centre), is promoted by the European ‘Startup Europe’ initiative of the European Commission under the framework of the Digital Single Market strategy. It has also received the recognition of patronage by the European Commissioner for the Economy and Digital Society, Mariya Gabriel.
This institutional backing at the highest level establishes the forum’s role as the main European call for bringing together companies, universities, startups and investors with potential collaborators and innovation ecosystems from Europe and other parts of the world, such as Silicon Valley, Latin America and Israel.
It is worth mentioning that in 2018, the event favoured the holding of over one thousand work meetings and enabled a turnover of over 240 million euros. Thus, 40% of the participating emerging companies received funding from some of the more than fifty investors present. This capacity to generate business will be substantially expanded in 2019, when more than 300 startups are expected to participate.
The Startup Europe Smart Agrifood Summit will be held on 20 and 21 June at FYCMA.
